love stories

For all of you out there who love projects, lists of projects, lists of inspiration, sharing projects, sharing love... I found this great idea to keep you busy for a few days.

DONATE YOUR STORIES OF LOVE

This is some of Colleen Baran's work from her Like Wearing a Love Letter Series.

Trinity

This is the backdrop that my friend Trinity asked me to make. She wanted it to look like the inside of a giant computer but I told her, "Hey, there are no more 'giant computers' . And what do you need a backdrop for anyway?" Then she proceeded to tell me about her friend Sticks who has a soundtrack attached to the water molecules above his head, so the least she figured she could have was a backdrop.
Oh...Ok, I wasn't gonna argue with that.

TRINITY

Trinity is part of THIS crew. They have some kind of production going on down the street. (I don't ask)

another valentine

this is one that I'm making for a local gift store.

Love Forest

Here is a page of Valentines that you can download, fill with color, cut, fold, and give away. Click on the black and white image to download the PDF.

This is what I did with mine.

something modern

Thought I'd try something new. This is something I doodled while I was in the total right brain mode; no thinking, just stream of consciousness drawing. So I scanned it and then added some digital color. I'm going to try some more.

the assignment

These five are on the first leg of their assignment. It's just the beginning...but...what if trees didn't grow from the ground up? What if they started in the middle of things?

These five are waiting for an assignment

I think I have just the thing...

red lion

This guy helps me out around here. I found him reading books at the thrift store. He demanded they include a classics section in the little book corner.

The Sunset

I saw the most amazing sunset this evening. The clouds were layered on top of one another like peony petals; thin, transparent membranes with minutes to live. Blue grabbed hold of purple, gulping a final breath, then eased out streaks of color that skipped along the tops of the high-rise buildings in downtown Atlanta. I was on the 16th floor of a group of three. But for those 10 setting moments, the city faded back, letting nature take a final bow.

There are still four more days left to the Gift Show and then I'll get back to some artwork of my own.

have you ever been searching for that one specific word that will make a long labored over sentence into a lasting work of art?

Well try this!
it's got a few surprises.

The Daily Kangaroo one six

This is an illustration by Carolyn Reed Barritt.

Also illustrated by Carolyn:
The Day the Dragon Danced a picture book about the Chinese New Year.

The final swap ornament

I just got my final ornament from the swap. It came all the way from Australia; can you tell?

I love it!

I know you have been seeing a lot of my latest owl design but once I create a drawing or doodle, I like to see how many incarnations I can get out of the idea.
This is the latest.

"Krikee, where did she come from?."
"I dunno mate, is she breathing?"
"Maybe she's one of those Pixar chicks--ya know--CGI."

workspace

Ever since I started this blog, and had a chance to visit so many other artist's blogs, I have found that I have much more creative follow-through. I guess it's the camaraderie of like-minded people that does the trick. The international blogs are some of my favorites, providing images that often convince me to slow down and enjoy that sometimes inaudible life song that shimmies up from the center of the earth. It's the candid openness that coaxes creative courage.
I'll be starting a new job on Tuesday and I'm sure the time for reading everyone's posts will dwindle, but that earthsong; I made sure I downloaded the MP3. Thanks everyone.

Arbor Day

Here in Atlanta, this year's Arbor Day is celebrated on February 15. We have so many great tree-filled parks in the area. There's Piedmont Park, Centennial Park and Grant Park, just to name a few.
So this is the poster I came up with to celebrate Arbor Day in Atlanta.

The Daily Kangaroo one two

This kangaroo is in Society Hill, in Philadelphia, PA, USA

Back to the play

Here is a photo of one of the stragglers from the ornament swap.

And this was the table on New Year's Eve.
The wind was frigid today, the coldest I've felt while living here in Atlanta.
Many cups of hot tea.
And drawing in a sunny window.

I'm off to a play reading tonight; they are always so inspiring.

The Resolution

Well, as resolutions swirled around my head like glitter in a snow globe, I waited till the sparkles settled and ended up with an idea that can evolve and change as much as this artist brain of mine.
I'm calling it The Global Tree.
I've got a special place in my heart for the economic, environmental, green design that stems from the concept of sustainability. I'm still trying to figure out how I can fit into the new trends but I thought I'd start by combining the idea of design, interactive contribution and continued global awareness, with a new project. So I drew a tree ,and I'm going to add a new leaf a day(each a unique shade of green) that is sampled from a global photo that I find on Flickr. As the project moves along, I'll add sustainability projects from various parts of the world that go with the photos.
I think I'm gonna have fun with this one....

ok, I'll still write 200 words a day, pull out my sketchbook at every meal, and get more exercise.maybe.
